TYPE OF AIRCRAFT
As a student of AIRWINGS RECREATIONAL FLYING SCHOOL you will receive your flight training in our 2 seater factory built & certified training recreational aircraft. AIRWINGS operates the fast & comfortable “State of the Art” Tecnam P92 Echo Super & gives us the priviledge of taking recreational flight training in Australia to the highest possible level. The Tecnam is a nose wheel aircraft which is strong, spacious, comfortable & heated. It is also fitted with a Transponder & has been designed to meet the demanding International Air Navigation Standards. This aircraft is light & responsive on the controls & has excellent ground handling qualities. The Tecnam also has the priviledge of being VH rated if required. The Tecnam P92 Super Echo has a very good cruise speed for longer cross country trips & is powered by the smooth & reliable Rotax 912S 100 hp 4 cylinder, 4 stroke engine. This gives the Tecnam a range of about 400 nautical miles.
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO LEARN TO FLY A RECREATIONAL AIRCRAFT
To learn to fly a recreational aircraft in Australia, you need to the Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) & obtain a Student Pilot’s Certificate.
To be eligible you must be 15 year of age & your health needs to be equivalent to that required for a motor vehicle license in Australia.
The RAA requires students to complete a minimum of 20 hours flight training.
As you will be operating a recreational aircraft under Australian flight conditions you must also be able to demonstrate to the CFI that you are able to understand & carry out instructions given in the English language.
You may have up to three (3) hours of flight training before applying for a Student Pilot’s Certificate.
How old is too old? There is no maximum age limit in Australia.

AIRWINGS RECREATIONAL FLYING SCHOOL operates out of the Narrandera/Leeton Airport which is ideally suited for recreational flight training. We generally have great weather for most of the year & are lucky to have wide open spaces in the surrounding countryside. We are also lucky in that we do not have to wait in long lines for taxiing & take off, so your time & money is not wasted.
Due to the generosity & support of the Narrandera Shire Council, no landing or other airport fees are charged for the use of the airport.
Narrandera is at the junction of 2 National Highways, the Sturt & Newel & is central to Sydney, Melbourne & Canberra. Narrandera is in the heart of the Riverina, close to wine growing areas & wineries & also the snow fields.
Narrandera Airport is located on the Leeton Griffith Road about 5 kilometres out of town. The airport is serviced by Rex Express Airlines flying between Sydney, Mildura & Narrandera.
