Learn how to fly and take to the air

HAVE you ever thought about learning to fly?

Airwings Recreational Flying School, based at Narrandera/Leeton Airport, can train people to become a recreational pilot and provides the opportunity to experience the ultimate freedom of the skies.

The highly-skilled instructors specialise in teaching and can also complete conversions from general aviation and gliding to Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) standard.

RAA is an aviation administration organisation established in 1983 as the Australian Ultralight Federation. Since then, Australian recreational and sport aviation has experienced pronounced growth, from membership to the number of RAA-registered aircraft. RAA and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) have together put in place one of the best, if not the best, system of very light aircraft pilot training in the world.

Airwings Recreational Flying School is an RAA-accredited flight training facility. What is required to learn to fly a recreational aircraft Firstly, obtain a student pilot’s certificate from RAA.

To be eligible a person must be at least 15 years old with health needs equivalent to those required for a motor vehicle licence in Australia. There is no maximum age limit in Australia. The RAA requires students to complete a minimum of 20 hours flight training.

As pilots will be operating a recreational aircraft under Australian flight conditions, they must also be able to demonstrate to the chief flying instructor that they are able to understand and carry out instructions given in the English language.

A person may have up to three hours of flight training before applying for a student pilot’s certificate.
