FLIGHT TRAINING
TRIAL INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT
If you would like to experience the thrill of flying before you commit yourself, AIRWINGS RECREATIONAL FLYING SCHOOL can arrange a Trial Introductory Flight (TIF) for as little as A$80.00 incl GST. We can also issue you with a temporary Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) membership that will allow you to receive up to 3 hours dual instruction prior to having to apply for a Student Pilot Certificate.
HOW HARD IS LEARNING TO FLY
At AIRWINGS RECREATIONAL FLYING SCHOOL it’s not hard at all. Quality instruction is the key to achieving success. At AIRWINGS you will be trained by one of the best, at a pace that best suits your learning style, needs & time availability. Casual & two (2) week full time courses are available.
At AIRWINGS you could be piloting on your own within eight to ten (8-10) hours of beginning your training. If you are a current pilot with a Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) or higher, you can obtain your Recreational Pilot Certificate with a minimum or five (5) hours flying time.
All your recreational flying hours count toward a General Aviation license if you are looking for a career in General Aviation.
TYPES OF TRAINING PROVIDED
In conjunction with actual flight training, you will also be taught Basic Aeronautical Knowledge, Flight Rules & Procedures, Meteorology, Map Reading, Navigation, Radio Procedures, Airport Circuit Procedures & General Airmanship.
There are two (2) ground tests & one (1) flight test which must be passed before you can be issued with a Recreational Pilot Certificate. The first ground test is a simple written multiple choice test on Rules of the Air, which must be passed before you can do a solo flight. The second is the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) which must be passed before the flight test.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR WILL BE AVAILABLE TO HELP YOU WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. TEACHING YOU TO FLY SAFELY IS ONE OF OUR MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS.
It is also important to remember that the time it takes to go solo is no indication of how good a pilot you are or will be.
ON YOUR 1ST LESSON
You will have a thorough ground briefing before you start. You will understand how an aircraft can fly & nothing will be done during the flight that you haven’t been briefed on, so there will be no unexpected surprises. Flying is about fun, not fear.
You will complete a pre-flight inspection before going through the basic controls & instruments.
During your first lesson you WILL fly the plane yourself. No way, you may think, but it’s true! Your instructor will take off & land for you. He will show you just how easy it is to fly by gradually allowing you to handle the controls until you eventually take full control. You will be exhilarated by this experience, your confidence will soar & you will ask yourself “Why didn’t I do this before now?”
After the flight you will be given a debriefing on your flight.
You can ask as many questions as you wish, in fact the more questions you ask the more confident you will feel. Your flight instructor is available to you on a “1 on 1 basis” so you won’t feel that you are talking to a stranger. You will feel comfortable knowing that your instructor is aware of your strengths & weaknesses & can give you the very best instruction & guidance.
